Residents in Shelburne may have noticed fewer closures recently at Roseway Hospital.
Health Minister Leo Glavine says that is the result of efforts to provide more resources to the area.
Those include adding advanced care paramedics and nurse practioners in the emergency department as well as resources outside the hospital.
Glavine also credits the partnership with Dalhousie University for bringing doctors to perform their residencies in the area.
“We’re seeing the first result of the Dalhousie residency program in Yarmouth where a new doctor has been recruited for Shelburne.”
Glavine says health care is starting to turn a corner in Shelburne.
“I’m very optimistic about Shelburne and meeting its primary care needs in the years ahead.”
Glavine says a new nurse practioner is on the way as well.
The minister says design of the new collaborative care facility is just about complete and he expects construction to begin by spring.
