A petition is circulating in parts of Shelburne County calling on the province to do improve cellular service.
Wood’s Harbour is of particular concern.
Warden Eddie Nickerson of the Municipality of Barrington says so far, no one has listened to their concerns.
He says the entire county seems to have been ignored.
“There are some areas where cell service is dropped. People and businesses rely on it. Cell phones are a daily tool. Our council has been pressing the issue for years. We’re in the same boat as all the other municipal units in Shelburne County.”
In a news release Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont says Woods Harbour deserves better cellular coverage.
d’Entemont says cellphone usage is necessary to the success of many businesses and this Shelburne County community continues to be underserved by all mobile networks, including Bell, Rogers and Eastlink.
“If we want our rural communities to thrive, we must ensure they have access to simple business tools like cellular coverage,” says the MLA, who points to the fishing industry as one in need of proper coverage. “Our lobster is the best in the world, yet the lack of cellular coverage is holding us back from increasing sales and exports. We can’t let that happen anymore.”
