Not a good start to the school year when it comes to red light violations in our area.
The Tri-County Regional School Board reports there were 25 school bus red light violations in the month of September.
While that’s down from 32 violations in September 2016, it’s on par with previous years.
Board Director of Operations Steve Stoddart says it’s still way too many.
“It’s very disappointing. We work with the RCMP, the local media and we’ve been pushing this. I can’t explain why the numbers aren’t dropping but they aren’t.”
He says he hopes it doesn’t take an accident to wake people up.
“It’s not if it’s going to happen, it’s when and I hope that never happens.”
Stoddart says he’s heard a few cases of drivers speeding up to avoid the red lights.
Stoddart urges people to remember: ‘if the red lights are flashing, don’t be passing.’
