The Warden of the Municipality of Digby says he’s pleased the province provided a grant to the council to hire a trail coordinator.
Jimmy MacAlpine says it shows the province also sees the value of the trail program.
It was one of the municipality’s priorities identified during strategic planning sessions.
“It’s all about getting people out and making them active. It’s also great for tourism as well, it’s another asset to our community for the tourists but the intent is also for the locals to have good access to the beaches, lakes and woods. We’ve got a lot of good trails and we’re just trying to develop more. It’s important that we have public access to our waterways and woods. We feel that this person can really enhance the trail systems that we already have and let them grow from there. We acquired a couple of lighthouses where there’s trails developed there and there’s community groups involved and this person can help them.”
Clare-Digby MLA Gordon Wilson says it’s a tremendous opportunity for the area.
“It’s something I’m tremendously proud to be able see that we’re providing $20,000 towards. In the Digby area we have a number of beautiful trails ranging from Balancing Rock all the up or shore to the back country. This position will further help to showcase what we have here.”
The Nova Scotia government provided $20,000 to the municipality for the trails coordinator position.
