A new bike lane has been installed along Water Street in the Town of Shelburne.
The province announced today that $50,000 has been provided through the sustainable transportation grant program, Connect2.
The lane connects to Dock Street, a multi-use street with a low speed limit.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says it’s a great boost to the community.
“We found out over the summer that we have an average of 21 people per day travelling through the town on bikes. It certainly is a great enhancement for the town, and appreciated by the people that are riding the bikes.”
Mattatall says she’s heard from motorists who are enjoying the wider road and that the bikes have their own area.
She says paving has been completed but the lines have not been painted yet.
This year, Connect2 will support 22 projects across the province, all expected to be completed by the end of March.
