‘Pink in the Rink’ was successful again for the Yarmouth Junior A Mariners.
For the second straight year, the team wore pink sweaters during their home games in the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and conducted an online auction of the jerseys that wrapped up yesterday.
$9,000 was raised for the Dr. Edwin Janke Cancer Centre at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surpassing last year’s total.
Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says it’s exciting news.
“We wondered if we could pull it off, and if we could at least match last year’s total. Fans and management have really outdone themselves, and we’re very pleased at the result.”
A gift basket sold by Carmen Coffin was also added to this year’s total.
Meanwhile, Barron says the team has a surprise in store for fans.
“We are really excited to unveil something at our next home game. I think fans are going to be pleasantly surprised at a new look.”
The Mariners play at Valley tomorrow and in Bridgewater against South Shore on Saturday.
Yarmouth is currently tied with South Shore for first overall in the MHL.
