The MLA for Argyle-Barrington hasn’t decided for sure if he’s going to run for the top job of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party.
Jamie Baillie announced Wednesday that he was stepping down as party leader.
Chris d’Entremont, the PC house leader and former health minister says there’s a lot to consider.
“I don’t think I am. It’s a commitment issue. Am I willing to put my family on the line for another eight years ? I’m not saying no just yet, but let’s see who puts their name forward and make a decision when times comes.”
d’Entremont says Jamie Baillie did some phenomenal things for the party in 7 his years as leader.
“He took a caucus of seven people, made it to eleven, now he’s made it to seventeen. I think he’s done a really good job in the party when it comes to funding, making sure we’re out of debt. We’re in a really good place for making government next time. He just looks at that commitment and thinks that’s eight years more of me being in here. It’s a tough thing to ask of a person or a family to commit to another eight years of politics. maybe a new face is something that we do need. We’ll have a good leadership race and we’ll build on our members moving forward toward the next election”
He says a leadership convention is likely more than a year away.
