Hundreds were at Mariners Centre in Yarmouth this morning to honour our veterans and those who fought for democracy.
The Remembrance Day ceremony at Mariners Centre looked a little different this year, with the ice in for next week’s Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.
The stage was on the left side of Arena 1, and the Maple Grove/Yarmouth High Memorial Club, band and wreaths were on the far right.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 President Charles Crosby says Mariners Centre and the curling host committee have helped them tremendously.
“They’ve leaned over backwards to help us get this organized. We had almost 100 chairs for our veterans. What you saw is what you saw every year before, dignity and grace.”
Many from Veterans Place were bused to the service.
Crosby says there were veterans from all over.
‘They came from Veterans Place, Branch 61, and veterans from Port Maitland were here also.”
Several dignitaries including Mayor Pam Mood, MLA Zach Churchill and West Nova MP Colin Fraser attended and laid wreaths.
