Yarmouth mayor Pam Mood was among the many Canadians following last night’s coverage of the U-S election that saw GOP candidate Donald Trump become the 45th American president.
Mood was in Halifax joining other Nova Scotia politicians and U-S Consul General Steven Giegeric.
She says Yarmouth, because of it’s close relationship with Portland and the U-S Eastern seaboard, will be keeping a close eye on how things unfold.
“I’ll be honest, to be in a room with the U-S Consul General and a lot of different politicians from around the province, it was fun but it was intense. and quite a bit of shock at the early returns. i guess we have to accept the fact that that’s the way the people voted and just keep our eyes on what happens next.”
Mayor Mood says she is a bit concerned because Trump has indicated he wants to change some of the rules particularly when it comes to trade.
“He’s going to be surrounded by advisors and he will quickly learn rules and regulations. I do believe he’s looking to change a few of those rules and I’m just hoping beyond hope that nothing goes down a negative path when it comes to U-S Canada relations.”
