All Canadians are being asked to wear a poppy in remembrance of those who served their country and to
honour those who paid the ultimate price.
The Royal Canadian Legion launched its 2016 its Poppy Campaign today.
The money raised from poppy donations supports Canada’s veterans through financial assistance and numerous support services.
The president of the Legion branch 61 in Yarmouth, Charles Crosby, says he commends groups like the Maple Grove and Yarmouth
High Schools Memorial Club.
“But you also have to remember that teachers in elementary schools are teaching their children and the children know.”
Yarmouth has two locations on Remembrance Day for people to honour veterans’s and their fallen comrades.
The Mariners’s Centre and the Cenotaph located in front of the library.
Jim MacLeod, the deputy mayor of Yarmouth says that attendance at the Cenotaph grows each year.
“It’s my favourite spot to go on Remembrance Day.”
Charles Crosby reminds people that the Legion doesn’t sell poppies, but they will accept a donation.
