Yarmouth Rural RCMP and the Police Dog Services were searching for the owner of a house that was destroyed by fire early this morning.
The 51-year old man and a woman lived in the home at 680 Mood Road in Summerville.
Both got out safely.
It’s not clear if there was anyone else staying in the residence at the time. It is not known why the man left the scene or why police are looking for him.
Two officers and a police dog were seen entering the woods next to the house.
Yarmouth Fire Department Platoon Chief Hank Nickerson says it’s too early to determine the cause.
“When we arrived on scene we had a fully involved structure fire, the family was standing outside. We put some water on it and tried to knock it down but it was too far gone.”
Nickerson was not sure how many were in the house at the time.
“The RCMP is investigating and the fire marshal is going to be called in.”
Besides Yarmouth, fire departments from Lake Vaughn, Port Maitland, Wedgeport and Eel Brook were on the scene.
