When Justin Cottreau’s Mother reached out to me and told me what her son was doing I was very intrigued. A 500 km hike from Digby to Halifax to support and raise awareness for Ukraine.
Justin started his hike on Tuesday and is now slowly making his way through the trail systems of Nova Scotia to reach his goal of walking to Halifax. He’s doing this to raise awareness for the war and terror that the Ukrainian people are living with and have been living with for over six months.
Justin, who is a social worker y trade says he has friends in the Ukrainian community and is just trying to do hos part by raising awareness and and not nessasarly funds. He is however encouraging people to donate whatever they can to Ukrainian relief organizations. You can find links to those organizations on his social media accounts he’s also tracking his journey and the journey of the Ukrainian people on his socials.

I had a chance to chat with Justin as he walked his way to Halifax yesterday. He is now in the Yarmouth area ad plans to keep walking for the next few weeks. He explained to me that the hike is called Digby To Dorohusk because Digby to Halifax is roughly the same distance as some Ukrainians have had to walk between Kiev to Dorohusk Poland to seek refuge.
