The École secondaire de Clare hockey team is hosting a charity golf tournament to raise money for the Clare Special Olympics.
It’s happening on Saturday August sixth at the Clare Golf and Country Club.
Clare Loups coach Jason Maddalena says they discussed holding the tournament throughout the year.
“This is something that, as a team, we decided that we were going to do starting this year and really it’s an opportunity for us as a team to give back to the community and support a great cause in the Clare Special Olympics.”
People can register for the tournament at 12 p.m. that day, with the tournament kicking off at one.
Registration for the 18 hole tournament is $300 for teams up to four people, a buffet supper will be held at 6 p.m.
There will also a BBQ, 50/50 draw and putting challenge throughout the day.
Maddalena says its his first year with the team and they wanted to give back.
“One of the first things that we talked about as a team throughout the year was to give back to the community,” says Maddalena. “We want to be part of the community, the community supports us so we want to do whatever we can to give back.”
He added it will also help keep the team together outside of the season.
While it’s the first year for the tournament, Maddalena hopes it becomes an annual event.
