Community leaders broke ground on Yarmouth’s splash park today.
After a strong fundraising campaign, construction is now beginning outside the Mariners Centre.
Splash park committee chair Linda Gallagher shared her feelings after the sod-turning ceremony.
“It’s a little overwhelming,” says Gallagher. “It’s exciting and hard to believe it’s happening in such a short amount of time.”
Among those to put shovels to soil were Mariners Centre CEO Dorgam Hideib, local MLA’s Zach Churchill and Colton LeBlanc, MP Chris d’Entremont and councillors from the three municipal partners in the project.

The committee has been raising money since last summer and Gallagher is sharing her thanks.
“I just want to thank everyone because this is truly a community effort to make this happen, but the splash park committee members are truly amazing.”
They’re close to their fundraising goal of $350,000 and Gallagher hopes the park will be ready for operation by mid to late August.
Work on the Splash Park is taking place on the Jody Shelley Drive side of the Mariners Centre.
