No tax rate increases for the Municipality of Barrington this year.
The residential rate will remain $1.07 per $100 of assessment, and the commercial rate is still $2.56 per $100.
Warden Eddie Nickerson says it’s good news for citizens.
“We were fortunate not to have to increase the rates. We had a fair bit of development and a lot of assessments that helped us out a lot in preparing this budget,” says Nickerson.
The balanced budget for 2022/23 is set at just under $14 million.
Nickerson says that includes three million for a new recreation centre, and money for a community health centre and upgrades to the Brass Hill Treatment Plant.
“It’s going to help minimize tax increases down the road, and hopefully keep money in the residents’ pockets.”
Funding for the recreation centre is dependent on help from other levels of government.
