Patti Durkee thought she lost District 4 in the Yarmouth Municipal election.
And then, she didn’t.
Durkee was the winner by one vote after the official addition last Tuesday.
On election night, Andy Baxter was declared the unofficial winner by four votes.
There was a miscount in Lake George, taking five votes away from Baxter, giving Durkee the official win by one.
Durkee says it’s been a roller-coaster.
“I accepted the fact that I had lost. I thought I had done a great job, and I was happy with what had happened, and I moved on. Then I found out I had won, and I was elated. I knew that a recount was going to come, and I was pretty happy that Andy made that decision because I felt there were some unanswered questions.”
Baxter filed papers with the court for a judicial recount
Durkee says it’s nerve-wracking.
“It’s anxiety provoking, sitting on edge just waiting for date. Now it’s on Monday, and I’ll be happy to get that over with and move forward.”
The recount takes place at the Yarmouth Provincial Courthouse on Monday afternoon.
Durkee and Baxter would be new to council, as Steve Paquette, who had the seat switched districts.
District 4 represents Port Maitland, Cedar Lake, Lake George, Sanford, Darlings Lake, Beaver River and part of Wellington.
