Yarmouth’s mayor says she’s had enough of people not picking up after their dogs.
Some days you can’t walk very far on Yarmouth’s Main Street without encountering dog feces.
It’s a perplexing problem that has plagued the town for years.
While most people who take their pooch for a stroll are responsible, it’s the small number of those who don’t care
are creating the mess.
Pam Mood says the town has set up containers that dispense bags and has tried to educate people but still
she says there’s too much dog feces along the sidewalks that line the downtown core.
Mayor Mood says it’s difficult to change people’s attitude.
” Obviously some people don’t get the message that we are trying to keep a neat and tidy town. They feel it’s ok to just walk their dogs and let them do their thing on the sidewalks. it’s wrong on all counts.”
“We do have by-law, the failure to remove feces, it’s plain and simple, $237.50 so if someone can catch these people, you know everyone has a smartphone, then we can do something.”
