The Facade Improvement Program began a couple of years ago and is designed encourages business owners in the downtown core to invest capital in sprucing up their store fronts.
The town helps out by providing grants to the successful applicants.
Mayor Pam Mood says the town at one point had fallen into disrepair but she says it’s surprising what a coat of paint can to
to improve the look and the feel of downtown Yarmouth.
“The facade program was probably one of the best things we’ve done in a long, long time, economically and that’s why we did it, economics. It’s been off the charts successful.”
Mood says the improvements have brought new customers which in turn bring additional revenue for the shops.
She also says a fresh-looking downtown helps attract visitors.
“It is an indication that people want to go to the next level. When you look at your neighbours and see what their doing you want to do the same thing.”
