After a Saturday morning engine problem off the coast of Canso forced a ship’s crew to abandon on Sunday, one of the five members fell into the sea while trying to transfer from a life boat onto a Coast Guard ship.
The fisher was rescued and taken to hospital in Sydney.
Guysborough-Tracadie MLA Greg Morrow says all credit goes to the responding agencies.
“We’ve heard too many stories where these stories don’t end well and, fortunate that these agencies responded as quickly as they did.” Morrow said.
He went on to say that everyone is keeping the fisher in their thoughts and that he understands the industry can be dangerous.
“We’re all thinking of the fisher and hoping for the best for their recovery, we know this industry can be dangerous and we’ve seen many examples here in the Quad Counties in the last few years alone.”
There is no word yet on the condition of the fisher.
