The CEO of the company that operates the Cat Ferry says while the terminal in Yarmouth could be nicer and more elaborate, he is also realistic.
Mark MacDonald of Bay Ferries Ltd. says money doesn’t grow on trees, even with governments, federal or provincial.
The terminal, built in the 1950’s, is under municipal control.
MacDonald says they feel they can work with the present facility.
“Of course it would be great to have a new facility and it would be incredible if we could ever get to the place where we were pre-clearing our U.S.customers on the ground in Yarmouth like happens at the Halifax airport.”
MacDonald says next year Bay Ferries is hoping to start using the covered foot passenger bridge.
This year passengers were shuttled between the vessel and the terminal.
He says it will require the addition of a new door on the ferry, a project he hopes can begin this winter.
The Cat ferry, which sails between Yarmouth and Portland, wrapped up its 2016 season two weeks ago today.
