A big donation for Yarmouth Elementary School.
Members of the Yarmouth Professional Firefighters Association visited the school this morning to present a cheque for over $25,000.
The money comes from local ticket sales through the Nova Scotia Firefighters Association weekly 50/50 draw.
President of the local association Lynn Seeley says it’s great to help youth in the community.
“Wherever there’s a need is where we like to see the money go, and we like to donate to benefit youth. It’s important for them to have enough playground equipment to keep them busy. It’s all about youth,” says Seeley.
He says for 300 plus students, it’s important to have as much playground equipment as possible.
Seeley says they’ve donated over $100,000 through the 50/50 so far.
“We’re passing it back to the community. With everyone’s support for these different projects or organizations, these donations work out for everybody.”
They’ve also donated to the breakfast program at Meadowfields School and Aidaen’s Place on Main Street.
