The province’s tourism agency says 11,000 hotel rooms were sold in Yarmouth and Acadian Shores in August.
That’s a ten per cent increase over August 2015.
It’s no secret the CAT ferry arriving in Yarmouth mid-evening played a factor.
YASTA General Manager Neil MacKenzie says the goal is for passengers and tourists to stay in our region during their visit.
“The team at Bay Ferries has worked really hard with the region and certainly us, to partner on opportunities to ensure that the visitor is staying as long as possible. Tourism has grown and operators are doing more and are investing in their businesses because they have seen the opportunity that the Cat ferry has brought.”
As far as hotel rooms sold, there was a ten per cent increase to 11,000 compared to last August for Yarmouth and Acadian Shores.
MacKenzie says the ‘CAT’ and its mid-evening Yarmouth arrival was key.
“A lot of those room nights are certainly sold for passengers of the ferry who are going to overnight here when they arrive and then at least overnight before they catch the ferry the next morning, so its a huge impact that the ferry has had on our region.”
Tourism Nova Scotia says August was a record month province-wide.
Nearly 400,000 non-resident overnight visitors came to the province, an increase of seven per cent compared to last August.
