Those in need of eye surgery will receive improved care at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation has announced the purchase of five specialized Ophthalmology stretchers.
Foundation Chair Neil LeBlanc says they were told the stretchers would allow adjustments to a patient’s head position for surgery, and better access for surgeons.
“Which is much more beneficial for the procedure and ultimately for the patient. We’ve concurred with it, the foundation has agreed and we funded it,” says LeBlanc. “We’re really pleased to be able to do it.”
The stretchers have articulating and dual-articulating headrests.
LeBlanc says the funding for the stretchers comes from a bigger package.
“Last year we spent 1.5 million dollars in equipment at the hospital and these five Ophthalmology stretchers are just part of the things we put forward to try to enhance healthcare at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.”
The Foundation says hundreds of cataract surgeries are done at the hospital each year and are thanking the public for their generosity in raising the funds.
