Buckle up.
That message has been repeated to Nova Scotia motorists since the provincial mandatory seat belt law was passed in 1985.
But it’s still being lost on many motorists.
RCMP spokesperson Corporal Dal Hutchinson tells us they’re seeing more and more drivers and passengers not wearing, and even refusing to wear seat belts.
“The common response we get is is ‘well it makes me feel uncomfortable, it hurts my neck or chest’ or ‘you know what, it’s my right, I can make my own choices and if I choice not to wear a seat belt I can.”
He says those people are missing two important points.
“One, seat belts save lives and keep you from being thrown around or ejected from your vehicle. Secondly, quite simply, it is the law.”
