Some new art to brighten up downtown Yarmouth.
The instillation ceremony for the “Octopus Garden” mural was held yesterday.
The mural comes from a group of 54 grade eight art students at Maple Grove Education Centre.
The students were led by their art teacher, Darcie Doucette, and artist Danielle Mahood.
Mahood described her time working with the kids.
“It was a bit of a challenge for me because it was all done through video call and that’s something that I’m not used to working with,” says Mahood. “Darcie, their teacher, was really good to work with and she helped me out a lot. She kept the kids going on it.”
The mural can be seen at the corner of Brown and Main streets in Yarmouth.
Mahood shared a message for the kids.
“I hope that they can take something away from this that they use later on in life,” says Mahood. “Some of the skills that they’ve learned maybe or even the ability to start a big project like this and follow it through to the end.”
