The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education will be participating in Pink Shirt Day tomorrow.
The provincial initiative asks teachers and students to take a stand against bullying by wearing pink to school.
Regional Executive Director of Education, Dr. Chris Boutler, discussed the message wearing a pink shirt sends.
“I think it draws attention to our shared responsibility, and our shared willingness and motivation, to be nice to each other and to create environments in schools where people get along.”
The initiative started in 2007, after a ninth grade boy in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.
“I think in terms of addressing bullying, the first step is having people reflect on what they can contribute, personally, to a safe inclusion environment,” says Boutler. “We all have a part to play in that.”
