It’s no secret, a new administration building is needed in the Municipality of Shelburne.
The current building on Hammond Street is a century old, and according to the municipality, does not meet National Building Code requirements, or accessibility standards.
Chief Administrative Officer Trudy Payne says there are also space, air quality and security issues with the existing structure.
In 2017, council purchased 35 acres of land across from the Shelburne Regional High School, and now a tender has been issued for construction of a new building.
Payne says the tender closes on Friday.
“Council will take a look at the tenders, and make a decision on whether to move forward with a new build, or not,” says Payne.
She says if council chooses to proceed, they would hold public information sessions to share designs, timelines and costs of the building.
The current design of the building would also include rental space for two Federal departments.
