This week marks the 17th annual Wedgeport Tuna Tournament and Festival.
Today’s tuna weigh-in will be live-streamed on the festival’s Facebook page at 5 p.m. The weigh ins are all closed to in person spectators.
The Tuna Pageant, to crown the 2021 Tuna Queen, will be live-streamed tonight at 7 p.m.
The events are following COVID-19 restrictions as per Nova Scotia Health, although special events coordinator Chloe Nickerson says they were able to hold most events.
“We tried to do them outside this year, most of them,” says Nickerson. “The weigh ins and captains send off was livestreamed this year, which is unfortunate, but better to follow the health restrictions.”
The captains send off was held Tuesday night.
The Tuna Fun Run and Timed Tuna Run, yoga on the beach and junior fishing derby are among some the events that have already taken place.
“We understand that there will probably be less people participating at each event due to COVID-19,” says Nickerson. “But we are very happy and pleased with the turn-out so far.”
Friday’s weigh in will be live-streamed at 6 p.m. and Saturday’s will be at 10 a.m.
Closing ceremonies will be held after the final weigh in.
