The Municipality of the District of Argyle is addressing issues with cell phone service in key areas of the community.
Recently, spotty service has expanded to more commonly lived areas in the municipality, specifically in Tusket and West Pubnico, in addition to poor cell service in more remote areas such as Kempt and Quinan.
Warden Danny Muise says they have experienced issues with cell service in their new administration building and businesses in the area are raising concerns.
“We’re not very far from where we were before. We really saw a significant drop in the service there,” says Muise. “There’s businesses all around us. I’ve heard that a lot of them, if they want to talk on a cell phone, they have to go outside their business and try to find a spot somewhere in the yard.”
The municipality is reaching out to service providers to work on resolving the issues, but Muise says there are ways the public can help bring the issues to the companies’ attention.
“The more complaints that the companies get, the quicker they look at it,” says Muise. “I would say that if anybody has problems in their area, report it to their cell provider.”
The municipality writes that service providers have previously taken a position that there aren’t enough users in the more remote areas of the community to justify an investment in improving cell phone service.
