The Municipality of Argyle has awarded $18,486 in grants for three community halls.
The grants come from the Community Hall Capital Project which was started 5 years. Warden Danny Muise says halls used to be part of the regular grant program.
“We didn’t feel they fit in there. Clubs used to be very self sufficient and we don’t want to lose these facilities because they’re good for community events.”
Club Social des Iles will receive $10,000 for new flooring. Quinan Club will receive $2,100 for repairs, and Club Acadien will receive over $6,300 for a new roof, septic, siding, windows, doors, lighting & security system.
The municipality also awarded 23 grants of $500 dollars to various organizations in the community.
Each councillor has up to $3000 dollars in a fiscal year that they can give to non-profit organizations.
Muise says he gets a lot of applications.
“Even if they receive the regular non-profit grants, they can still apply for the $500,” says Muise. “It’s not hard to give the $3000 in the year, we have a lot of organizations. It’s good for them for sure.”
Muise says there are few requirements needed to apply for the grants. He encourages non-profits, including Fire Stations, to apply.
