A Clark’s Harbour fisherman is throwing out a donation challenge.
Stephen Goreham, who is about to retire after nearly 50 years as a lobster fisherman, wants other fishers to donate to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund for local cancer patients.
Goreham says he and his wife have both battled cancer, and he’s lost many family members to the disease over the years.
He says the fund is very important.
“My goal would be that no one would have to be turned down if they need money in order to travel to appointments and treatments. We hope that hearts start to open and pocketbooks also. I say don’t hesitate, just donate,” Goreham said.
Goreham says the Barrington area has high cancer rates, despite a small population.
He says some fishers have already given $1,000, but any amount would be helpful.
“This fund helps people in our area. So far this year, $36,000 has been given out to local cancer patients to help with travelling to treatments in the city.”
The Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund helps local cancer patients in the Municipality of Barrington and Cape Sable Island areas through fundraising events and donations.
