Yarmouth MLA and Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill is discussing the current outbreak of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia.
He described why it was the right decision to lockdown the entire province for the next two weeks.
“It is better economic policy to go hard and fast with a lockdown than it is to take half measures and let this thing grow,” said Churchill. “We’ve benefitted from going hard and fast for the first two waves and that has allowed us, over the last year, to have a much more normal life.”
He also touched on mask wearing and if it’s an issue of personal freedom.
“I don’t think that it’s true. Do we think we’re not free because we have to wear seatbelts? or helmets? or follow the speed limits?” said Churchill. “The fact is we’re a law and order society and we have rules and laws in place to protect each other. So wearing a mask, I would equate, to wearing a seatbelt.”
Churchill also discussed the vaccine rollout and the COVID-19 variants.
