The Mariners Centre has stepped up to help people with dry wells.
They’re offering free water fill-ups and hot showers.
Manager Gil Dares says they wanted to be proactive.
“We did this back in 2016 when we had a dry spell for several months and we wanted to get ahead of the situation this time.”
He remembers the hardships people endured.
“Imagine not having water for a bath or shower. One woman said to me ‘I’d rather run out of money than run out of water.’”
He says right now Mariners Centre is not open evening and weekend hours, but that will change next week.
“We’ll likely have extended hours next week.”
Mariners Centre also has a portable water tank they loan out.
