Eight teams in the Maritime Junior Hockey League have decided to call it quits for the season.
All teams in the Eastlink South Division, including the Summerside Western Capitals, made the decision last night.
In a statement, MHL President Steve Dykeman says it was not an easy decision for any club, and they’ve tried throughout the season to keep playing in a safe manner.
He also thanked players and team staff for their sacrifices and commitment to keeping the season going.
The league also announced that the Canadian Tire Cup will not be awarded for the second straight season.
On Monday, the league announced all team activities in Nova Scotia would be postponed until further notice.
The other team that decided to end their season was Grand Falls, who remain in the orange zone in New Brunswick.
Three NB teams: Campbellton, Fredericton and Miramichi will continue competition to crown a provincial champion.
