Fire Prevention Week begins Sunday in Canada.
As usual, Yarmouth kicks it off unofficially Friday evening with the torch light parade.
The Yarmouth Fire Department’s Chief Fire Prevention Officer Stewart Deveau says it’s a long-time annual traditional enjoyed by all ages.
“It starts at 8’clock from Argyle Street down Main to Porter Street and up to the fire hall where there’s light refreshments.”
Deveau says all fire departments in the Tri-Counties have been invited to participate.
The firefighters who march in the parade don’t carry actual torches anymore.
They use glow sticks which are safer and are passed out to children along the route.
