As more Canadians get their COVID-19 vaccine, including Justin Trudeau, you may need to get vaccinated again in the coming years.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is confirming the country is already preparing for next year’s booster shots.
“We’ve reached an agreement with Pfizer for 35-million booster doses for next year, and 30-million in the year after,” he explains, adding the deal includes the option to double those shipments and potentially add 65-million in 2024.
“These boosters will be the latest version of the Pfizer vaccine based on research and testing, and they will help us keep the virus under control,” Trudeau says.
While he says it’s not guaranteed that we will need booster shots next year and in following years, he doesn’t want the country to be caught unprepared.
There is certainly a hope that booster shots might not be necessary, but we are much better off to ensure that we’re prepared in case they are,” he says.
Trudeau got his first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine Friday afternoon.
Trudeau also confirmed Montreal-based company Medicago is the first Canadian company to submit its own COVID-19 vaccine for Health Canada approval.
The country is also set to get its first 300,00o doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine next week.
