Municipality of Argyle staff are hoping to be in their new administration building before summer.
Garian Construction began work on the new building in Tusket over a year ago,
Wild Salt Architecture designed it, and the municipality says it will be the first ‘net zero energy’ admin building in Canada, helping to save $27,000 annually in energy costs.
CAO Alain Muise says everything is going as scheduled.
“Much of the interior flooring has been put down. They are aggressively pursuing all sorts of final touches for the building. We are expecting it to be completed substantially by the end of May.”
Muise says staff are hoping to move into the building by mid-June to begin operations.
“Mid-June does represent a time when it’s busier than normal, a lot of people are coming in to pay their taxes. We are hoping to be set up in our barrier free location so that people can get there conveniently.”
The municipality received $460,000 in grants from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for the project, and access to Federal Gas Tax funds for an energy efficient design.
When work started, it was estimated the move-in would be July, 2021.
