The Nova Scotia SPCA is renewing its call for donations after 77 dogs were surrendered from one property in Cape Breton last week.
Many of the dogs were taken to shelters throughout the province to ease the stress but the SPCA is still struggling with space issues and costs.
The animal-welfare group states recent donations have helped with vet bills and with constructing an offsite location to assist with rehab.
“After transporting the dogs throughout the province, we still did not have enough space to shelter and meet their rehabilitation needs,” stated a Facebook post updating the public on the situation. “So, with your generous support, we created an emergency offsite location. There is a dedicated quiet space and few distractions to help them learn new skills.”
However, the SPCA indicates funds are being used up quickly and many dogs aren’t ready for adoption. They are asking anyone that can donate to considering helping out.
“Originally when we estimated treatment would exceed $70,000, we thought we would be taking in 50 dogs and pups. Not 77. Costs are quickly adding up. If you haven’t had the opportunity, or if you’re able to give again, please make your lifesaving gift below. Every bit helps.”
Animal-lovers who want to help can make a donation online or by texting SPCA to the number 4-10-10 to donate $20.
