Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a wetlands conservation group, have named their volunteer of the year in Nova Scotia.
Barrington’s Angèle Scott was named and has been working with DUC for six years.
She talked about how it felt to be named volunteer of the year.
“Very surprised, super honoured. It really means a lot to not only be recognized for your work, but by your peers,” said Scott. “I’m just one person in a group of many people. We all have our things that we’re good at. When we come together our committee runs pretty smoothly. Definitely a team effort.”
Scott has been doing work for DUC in the Shelburne area. Her work includes an annual fundraising dinner and auction as well as fundraising for education programs for elementary school kids to learn about and experience wetland habitats.
She discussed why this kind of work is important to her.
“I kind of refer to myself as an outdoorsy person. I just want to have that connection with nature. It’s in my genes a little bit for those who are familiar with the Scott family. It’s part of my roots,” said Scott. “I just have that love of nature and want it to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.”
