Premier Iain Rankin spoke with the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce today in a virtual Q and A session.
Rankin touched on a variety of topics including fishing, health and economic diversity.
Afterwards he spoke with reporters and addressed the dispute between Indigenous and Commercial fishers, outlining the province’s role.
“We hope for a peaceful fishing season and that if there are tensions that rise that dialogue is the way through that,” said Rankin “And our role beyond that is to make sure that there’s public safety beyond the wharf. We’ll make sure that we have our officers ready in case there are any complications but I’m hoping that it is an all around successful season for both the Mi’kmaq and for Commercial Fishermen in the southwest.”
The premier also discussed reopening the pool at 275 Main Street, saying that the province is looking for a program to align with the project.
“We’re basically looking at what program would exist that it would align with,” said Rankin. “We don’t have a program right now that fits with that project but we’ll make sure that we are looking out for something with infrastructure, with federal government supports to make sure that we have that on a priority list.”
Rankin previously spoke with Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood in a Facebook live event two weeks ago.
