World War 1 medals that belonged to a Yarmouth County veteran will soon be returned to the village where he lived.
While Private Lucien Éldridge d’Entremont is gone now, his heroics during the Great War will live on through the medals.
The medals were acquired by Gary Wolf from Bend, Oregon through an internet auction from a dealer in military
memorabilia.
Wolf did some research and discovered that d’Entremont was from West Pubnico.
Father Maurice LeBlanc who is related to Lucien d’Entremont says he’s very happy the medals are being returned.
“I’m happy because he’s a d’Entremont and those medals are brought back to the local museum in Pubnico.”
Father LeBlanc remembers his mother’s cousin when he was at what is now University Ste. Anne.
“There were courses given at the college to prepare the students to become soldiers or officers. He was appointed director of what was called the
Canadian Officer Training Course.
A ceremony marking the return of the medals will be held Thursday October 20 at 1:30 pm at the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos et Centre de recherche on Thursday October 20 at 1:30 pm.
