The minister of education and early childhood development says she’s disappointed by the outcome of the vote by teachers.
Karen Casey says the collective bargaining process has run its course.
She says the province will not return to the bargaining table and await the union’s decision.
“The ball is in their court. It’s early. They would have received the vote last night. So, we’ll wait to hear what comes out of those meetings with the president and their executive.”
Casey says teachers have the right to strike.
She says the province is not looking to impose Bill 148, the government’s planned four-year wage package.
Casey says government is waiting for teachers to meet and decide their next steps.
