Work on the next phase of the Main Street Redevelopment Project in Yarmouth is set to start after the Easter Weekend.
Phase II of the project will begin after the long weekend and is expected to take about three months to complete.
Crews will focus on beautifying the downtown as well as landscaping and accessibility. Some of the enhancements include “kitchen party” seating at sidewalk bump-outs, a bus shelter at Alma Square and colourful displays of public art.
Project Manager Brandon McNicol talked about what people can expect when the work is finished.
“I think its going to look great. There’s been a lot of nice work happening on Main Street, you see a lot of the buildings getting redone,” said McNicol. “I think this is going to add to it and be something that we’re proud of to have on Main Street.”
McNicol also talked about what people heading downtown during the work can expect.
“There’ll be a little bit of closure on some of the side streets,” said McNicol “Our goal is to keep Main Street operational but some sidewalks and some of the side streets that go up to Main Street could be temporarily closed for some time. It’s not going to be any significant interruptions.”
Last fall, the Town replaced sewer and water infrastructure, installed new curbing, and put down new asphalt between Parade Street and John Street.
