West Nova MP Chris d’Entremont is sharing his thoughts on the Department of Fisheries and Oceans plan to address concerns surrounding moderate livelihood fisheries.
He says its a good start but he has some concerns.
“Ultimately, I’m pretty happy that there has been an announcement, or move forward, by the department,” said d’Entremont. “I am worried a little bit that it doesn’t have a whole lot of details to it yet, so I’m waiting to see.”
d’Entremont shared some of his questions about the plan.
“What’s the timing of it? Where the licenses are coming from and, ultimately, how are they going to address the other side of the story now which is, of course, that we have a number of indigenous bands that are aggravated or mad that they weren’t consulted.”
He added that the things in the plan, including enforcement and conservation, are what fishing organizations in the southwest have been asking for.
