Earlier today Yarmouth Professional Firefighters responded to a small electrical fire at Sobey’s in Yarmouth.
A tweet issued by the Yarmouth Professional Firefighters Association at 1:09 p.m. said that firefighters were responding to an active incident at the Sobeys.
The fire was caused by the lobby’s Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
A statement from the store says that customers and employees were evacuated and are safe.
They say that the fire was contained but that the store needed to be closed for clean up.
A spokesperson for the store said that they were waiting for approval from the department and health and expect to be open by 4:30 p.m.
