The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners are still undefeated.
The Mariners took down the defending North Division champion Dieppe Commandos 5-2 tonight at Mariners Centre.
Yarmouth’s season opening win streak hit seven with the victory.
Andrew Martell had two goals for the home team, picking up first star honours.
Matt Barron, Ezekiel Estrada and Duncan McKie also scored, Chris Goreham and Noah McMullin each had a pair of assists.
Leif Hertz was solid in net for the Mariners, making 25 saves for his fifth win of the season.
Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says the 1,100 plus fans in attendance were treated to a great game.
“Probably the toughest team we’ve played to date, and probably the fastest too. We answered the bell. We were great on the penalty kill too, we did a great job and I thought that was the difference in the game.”
The Mariners led 2-0 after 1, and 3-2 after 2 before pulling away in the third.
There were a lot of penalties in the game, and much physicality.
Barron says his team is stacked with large players that can body-check.
“We have some real good puck-movers too. I think we were pretty physical tonight, it’s good to see.”
Yarmouth is off until next Friday, when the Amherst Ramblers visit Mariners Centre.
