Four housing projects across Nova Scotia will receive a contribution from the provincial government.
Among them is $650,000 to develop 54 units, affordable and otherwise, at the former high school on Parade St.
Yarmouth MLA, Zach Churchill, talked about why the government chose to support the projects.
“Affordable housing is a priority for our government,” said Churchill “It’s projects like this, working together with municipal units and developers that is really going to make a difference to make sure that there is greater supply of affordable and high quality housing in Nova Scotia.”
The town of Yarmouth will match the amount being contributed by the province.
Mayor Pam Mood talked about the need for housing in the community.
“We’re desperate for housing throughout the entire province, certainly in the town where its critical mass and more folks are wanting to be in the town,” said Mood. “So we need those apartments. We need a mixture of affordable and other, and this project will take care of a portion of that.”
Mood wasn’t able to provide details on what comes next but says they are looking forward to getting the project off the ground.
