A cold night that is sure to warm hearts.
The Tri County Women’s Centre and SHYFT Youth Services have announced that the annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk will take place on the week leading up to February 20th.
The funds raised will go to their clients during what they say is a time of year known for low levels of giving.
Tri County Women’s Centre Executive Director, Trish McCourt, talked about why the event is important.
“A five kilometer walk is nothing compared to what someone who is homeless is facing in Canada,” said McCourt. “It just gives people a chance to get out in the community together, as a group, also just bring some more awareness to that issue.”
Participants are encouraged to walk two or five kilometers with their team or on their own. McCourt also detailed about how the event has changed due to COVID-19.
“We’re still encouraging people to get out and do a two kilometer or five kilometer walk but we won’t be doing it as one large group,” said McCourt. “We’ll be encouraging all of the teams to get out and get that conversation happening about what people are facing when they’re not in a secure housing situation.”
There will also be groups at the Yarmouth Farmer’s Market and the Yarmouth Mall tomorrow to collect donations and sign people up.
