For anyone having trouble heating their home, the Yarmouth Fuel Bank is now open.
It’s being run through the Tri County Women’s Centre. Executive director, Trish McCourt, talked about why the bank is important.
“What we see on a regular basis is that people are having to make decisions between different basic needs in order to make their ends meet.” said McCourt.
Applications can be made by calling the women’s centre. Applicants are then asked a few questions about household income and expenses before gaining access to the fuel bank. McCourt says the questions are supposed to be non-intrusive.
McCourt shared a message for people thinking of applying.
“There are other supports available in the community,” said McCourt. “If they’re feeling that need they should definitely call and make the request. We’ll determine if we’re able to help.”
The bank is available to people in Yarmouth and Yarmouth County. The minimum amount of fuel people can receive is $300 worth. The service is offered to each applicant once a year.
