
The search for the Chief William Saulis scallop dragger is continuing. RCMP confirmed today debris that was located recently is not connected to the missing vessel.
With assistance from the Canadian Coast Guard, members with Nova Scotia and British Columbia RCMP Underwater Recovery Teams used a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle to search targeted areas of debris in the water identified by GPS coordinates and other information. Those targets were determined not to be related to the sunken vessel.
The Underwater Recovery Teams are continuing their search today with assistance from the Canadian Coast Guard. Side scan sonar and the ROV are looking into new targeted areas.
The aerial search is finished but may start again if there is new information.
On December 28th, the search turned up a piece of debris that police noted is consistent with a small part of the vessel. The scallop dragger and most of its crew have been missing since the vessel went down early on the morning of December 15th.
